2050 Sports are proud to announce the Beyond Human collection, the forthcoming project from our resident artist Lee Jones. He is currently producing a series of paintings that celebrate sports-people who dare to push the limits of human performance. The hand-picked subjects are all leaders in their own fields, all of them encapsulate what a true athlete should be.
Throughout time there have been those who explore the capabilities of the body and mind. Each generation of athletes seek to better the last; going faster, further and with more style than ever before.
The qualities needed to go beyond the achievements of other human beings make the sporting elite appear as real-life super-heroes. To be the best in your field requires talent and tenacity that stretches the imagination, taking the sporting star into an almost shamanic role.
The parallels between sport and art are numerous. Both are fuelled by passion, both are representative of the zenith of human endeavour. Like a world-class sports-person, Lee Jones pushes the limits of his own talent every time he picks up the brush to paint. He is never satisfied with anything less than perfection, always seeking to move his game up a level. Lee Jones' is regarded as one of the foremost figurative artists of his generation, but he is never satisfied. He takes one of the oldest art-forms and injects it with new life, moving the game on for his contemporaries. In his own way, this makes Lee Jones himself Beyond Human as he takes his art away from its traditions.
Lee Jones' style of uniting detailed realism with spectacular fantasy enables him to capture sport in a unique way that goes beyond the literal. Lee has selected the athletes according to his own criteria, looking at the spirit in which the person performs rather than coldly selecting the star according to statistics. He is looking for characters who personify passion and determination, pushing themselves to and over the edge in pursuit of their sporting destiny.
